CVU's Recreation program is for beginner soccer players or children who want to play without the pressure and commitment of Travel. Our Recreation program provides active, developmental play and is run by volunteer coaches. The focus is on teaching players the fundamental skills of the game and having a fun experience.
Recreation is available in both the Fall and Spring seasons. Teams are currently offered for U5 to U12 players, with our U9 to U12 teams participating in the CVRSA (Central Virginia Regional Soccer Association).
The Fall season begins after Labor Day and the Spring season typically starts in March. Registration opens about two months prior to the start of the season. Spots are reserved on a first come, first served basis.
The younger U5 to U8 players are $50 per season and practices/games are run by CVU. Our older U9 to U12 players participate in the CVRSA and are $90 per season. This fee covers a team t-shirt. Please be sure to register your player to ensure their place on a team. Note that there is a no refunds policy in effect upon the close of registration and start of the season.
Recreation teams are co-ed. Age groups are combined to form U5/U6, U7/U8, U9/U10, and U11/U12 teams. Players are placed in an age group corresponding to their birth year. Once registration is closed, teams are formed and coaches assigned. Your player may request to be on the same team as someone; however, CVU is unable to guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled.
PLEASE SIGN UP TO COACH! Our Recreation program relies on volunteer coaches. When registering your player, we highly encourage you take a moment to consider registering yourself as a volunteer coach or assistant for the season.
Coaches will be given all necessary equipment and training session plans by club staff. No previous playing background or coaching experience is necessary.
U5 to U8 Players: Practice on Wednesdays - U5/U6 from 5:45pm to 6:45pm and U7/U8 from 6:45pm to 7:45pm. Games will take place on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am.
U9 to U12 players: Team coaches will choose a day and time for practices. Games will be held at the CVU Complex and surrounding local counties and the CVRSA will create the Spring season game schedule. Games are mainly scheduled for Saturdays; however, there is the possibility of a Sunday or midweek game.
